FAQ

What can I expect from a free consultation call?

A consultation call is a brief, no-pressure conversation to see if working together feels like a good fit. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and I’ll answer any questions you have about the process. It’s also a chance for you to get a feel for my approach before booking a session.

What can I expect from my first therapy session?
Your first session is about getting to know you. We’ll review consent and intake information, explore what’s been weighing on you, and begin identifying your goals for therapy. There’s no expectation to share everything at once – we move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
How often will I need to attend therapy?
Session frequency depends on your needs and goals. Many clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic foundation, then adjust over time. We’ll check in regularly and decide together what feels most supportive for you.
Do I need a mental health diagnosis to benefit from therapy?

Not at all. Therapy is for anyone seeking greater understanding, support, or change – whether you’re navigating a specific challenge or simply wanting to feel more grounded and aligned in your life.

How long does therapy take to start feeling helpful?
Everyone’s journey is different. Some people notice small shifts within the first few sessions, such as feeling lighter or more understood. Others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll regularly reflect on progress and adjust our approach as needed, celebrating meaningful changes along the way.
Is psychotherapy covered by insurance?

Many extended health insurance plans in Ontario cover psychotherapy services. Coverage varies by provider, so we recommend checking with your insurance company to understand your specific benefits.

Do you offer direct billing?
The Vital Light Psychotherapy Co. does not offer direct billing. A credit card is required to book sessions, and you’ll receive a receipt after each appointment to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed sessions, are subject to the full session fee.
How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
Feeling safe, understood, and comfortable is essential in therapy. A consultation call is a great way to explore fit. If at any point it feels like I may not be the best match, I’m always happy to help connect you with other therapists in Ontario.
Is virtual therapy secure?
Yes. All virtual sessions are conducted through Jane, a secure, PHIPA-compliant platform designed specifically for healthcare providers. Jane uses encryption and privacy safeguards to protect your personal information, so you can feel confident that your sessions and records are kept safe and confidential.
